Youth Horsemanship Camps
“Surviving with Horses and Mules in the Wilderness”

The purpose of the camp is to teach horsemanship skills similar to those used by guides and outfitters in hunting and fishing camps out west.  This is an introduction to the skills that we teach at Appalachia Spring Ranch in the Guide and Packers School.  The skills vary greatly from those taught in traditional stables and riding arenas.  The focus of the program includes:  riding in mountain terrain and caring for horses miles away from civilization, building leadership, communication and team skills, and building an awareness of careers in outdoor recreation.

 Skills include:
            Horse Safety
            Tack and tacking
