Destination Unknown Clair & Sandy's Home Away From Home
May 2004
We arrived in the Branson area on May 14th in early afternoon. We stayed at Turkey Creek RV Park. This is another Escapees resort which is very nice. There is a lot to do and see around this area. We went to two shows and did a lot of sight seeing including taking a day trip to Eureka Springs and Bentonville AR. Eureka Springs is a unique little town nestled in the mountains of northwest Arkansas. lots of shops etc.
Bentonville is very interesting being the home of Wal-Mart. We went to the museum which is located in the old 5 and 10 that was Sam Waltons first store. The mountains and lakes in this area are beautiful. We were so busy looking at all the attractions that we ended up staying ten days at Turkey Creek.
On May 24th we moved on to Carthage MO which is the home of Precious Moments collectables. They have a really nice complex of buildings and attractions besides the large gift shop. We stayed in their campground where we happened to get in the middle of the MO state Holiday Rambler rally. They invited us to stay and spend the week, but we decided to move on.
May 25 we moved on to the Wichita KS area. We stayed at Spring Lake RV Resort at Halstead KS. This is a Coast to Coast park and is real nice. We have a lot to see in this area. Kansas isn’t as flat in areas as I expected. We came thru an area with rolling terrain where the elevation varied by several hundred feet. It’s interesting to see the large wheat and corn fields, many with oil wells in them. There are huge grain elevators in most towns along the way.
In Wichita there is the Old Cowtown Museum where they reconstructed a complete town of the 1800s including a working farm. That was very interesting.
We also went to the Kansas aviation museum located next to McConnell Air Force Base. Boeing, Cessna, Learjet, Beech and Rayetheon aircraft all have manufacturing facilities in Wichita.
