Destination Unknown Clair & Sandy's Home Away From Home
May 2004
We moved to Pigeon Forge on May 3rd and stayed at the Creekside Campground.
May 4th, we went through Gattlinburg and on up in the Smokies. It was a beautiful day and the mountains were fantastic. We traveled all the way to the top and saw Clingmans Dome which is 6634 ft. in elevation. It is one of the highest peaks in the eastern part of the country.
May 5th was our Dollywood day. We had a great time. The park is very nice with great shows and entertainment. That lady is something else. She has accomplished so much in her life and she isn’t done yet.
From Pigeon Forge we moved on to Breckenridge Resort at Crossville TN. Breckenridge is a Coast to Coast Resort and is located on the plateau between Knoxville and Nashville. It is in the country and very quiet. We got acquainted with resort mgr. Liz McNamee who is the friendliest manager you could imagine. We had a great time there.
On May 8th we traveled to Nashville Country RV Park. On Saturday night we attended the Grand Old Opry. Sunday and Monday we did some shopping at Camping World and Wal-Mart and sight seeing. There is much to see and do here.
Mom, Our Favorite Star of the Opry! hahaha!!!
May 11th we moved on to the Memphis area. On the way down I40 we saw signs to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. Needless to say we followed the signs. She has a beautiful 6500 acre property including a campground, museum and a tour of the house where she raised her family. After we finished our tour we went on to the Memphis area and settled in at Tunica MS which is about 20 miles south on Memphis. Tunica has several Casinos,
We stayed at the Hollywood Casino Resort.
Wednesday May 12th we went in to Memphis and toured Graceland like tourists. It was interesting but pretty pricy. We also went downtown and saw the ducks at the Peabody Hotel where they were swimming in the fountain. We then went for a walk on Beal Street the home of the blues. This evening we will check out the casino here at Hollywood.
After returning from Memphis and getting cleaned up we went over to the casino to see what it was all about and eat dinner. We had a great buffet then went out on the floor and tried the nickel machines. We had fun, but we didn’t have any luck.
May 13th we headed up through the mountains of Arkansas. We traveled secondary roads up and across the northern part of the state. It is some very nice country. We ended up at the town of Mountain Home a neat little town near the shores of Bull Shoals Lake. Next we will move on to Branson MO. This is about seventy miles west of here.
