December 2006
12/04/06 Monday we left Summerdale and headed west to Abbyville LA and Betty’s RV Park. Betty is a very personable Cajun lady who started a campground in her yard and has expanded to nineteen sites which fills the whole yard. Betty is a lady who just loves people and looks forward to afternoon get togethers with her guests and cooks Cajun dishes and really makes you feel at home. When you leave you have to promise to return.
While at Abbyville we went to an authentic Acadian Village that was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was very interesting.
The next day we took a side trip to the Tabasco factory at Avery Island LA. Where we toured the factory and learned how they age and bottle the Tabasco sauce.
12/06/06 Wednesday we left Betty’s and traveled to the Escapees Rainbows End RV Park near Livingston TX. This is the headquarters of the Escapee’s RV Club.
12/07-12/06 During our stay at Rainbows End we attended the four o’clock socials various entertainment and visited with friends in the park.
We also toured the area, did some shopping and attended a Christmas parade in Livingston.
12/13/06 We left Livingston and traveled west to Schulenburg TX where we stayed at Schulenburg RV Park. This is a nice ranching area and we took the painted churches driving tour which is comprised of seven old well preserved country churches.
Schulenburg is also home to the Stanzel model airplane factory and museum. This was the foremost model airplane manufacturer of its time
12/16/06 Sat. We left Schulenburg and traveled to the Lone Star Corral Escapee park at Hondo TX which is in ranch country and the foot hills of the hill country.
12/17-27/06 While at Hondo we toured the hill country including Bandera, Lake Medina, Kerrville and surrounding areas. We attended most of the four o’clock socials and played cards in the evenings.
One day we went in to San Antonio and the River Walk and the Tower of the Americas which is a 650 foot tall tower with a restaurant and observation deck at the top.
Christmas eve we had a party in the club house with gift exchange, finger food and entertainment. On Christmas day we had a real nice dinner in the club house.
12/28/06 We left Hondo and traveled to the Holiday Travel Park in Del Rio TX.
Del Rio bills itself as “The Best of the Border” This area is known for Ranching, hunting, fishing and boating on the Amistad Reservoir.
12/30/06 We left Del Rio and traveled west into the Big Bend Country at Alpine TX and the Lost Alaskan RV Resort. This is a very nice new park and the owners are from Alaska. While here we visited the McDonald Observatory on Mt. Locke and near Ft. Davis.
